Home Sweet Home...#2

This past weekend the kids and I went down to Mooresville for a few days of rest and relaxation.







We all had an amazing time; Sam realized that playing basketball is her new "thing", I realized that when I'm scrapbooking with my best friend I forget to see if the kids are ok...check out Sam's sunburn in the following picture!



And both kids decided that kittens are just what our house needs. Pat's not on board yet, so we'll see...





The absolute worst part of the trip was having to leave...of course, leaving home (#2) is never easy...

The tummy bug I mentioned in my last entry? It struck Cameron last Saturday, Samantha on Monday, and it got me Friday night. My grand weekend plans were dashed as I was too weak to do much at all, then all of a sudden it's Sunday night again. I hadn't been able to pack for Anne's, do 2 days worth of sub plans, get my scrapping stuff together, or even plan for the week. What a disheartening way to start the week. Until....

Snow day! We got about 6 inches. Maybe more, I stink at guessing stuff. We slept late and I got some work done before we spent 2 hours outside in the biting cold and wind. I'm posting now, then I'll get back to work; the kids are in the basement (I have no idea how many, exactly) and they'll take a trip to Kat's hot tub in a little while....

I still don't feel great yet, but I feel blessed that the Lord heard my prayers asking for just a little more time to get myself together.

My class needs a sick day

I currently have 24 students. 9 didn't show up for school today, and 7 were confirmed with fever and vomit. The other 2 didn't answer when the school called, but I can guess based on their attendance record that they're sick, too. I sent another one home right after lunch.

Please, please, please, God, don't let me get sick!!

This just in: 2 hour delay tomorrow!

The snow day rituals actually work. Here is the recipe for getting schools to close due to inclement weather:

1. Jammies on backwards and inside out
2. Flush an ice cube down the toilet
3. Do your own version of the Snow Dance
4. Sleep with a spoon under your pillow

Let's see if we can stretch this 2 hour delay into a full-out closing...

I. Love. Snow. Days!

We had school on Monday. It started snowing late Monday night and continued to snow all day Tuesday. Tuesday was teacher workday, but they finally released us at noon. Sam and Cam had a blast sledding and snowboarding down a neighborhood hill. I spent the evening shuttling back and forth between the school website and the local channels as I waited, and waited, and waited...finally at 10:30 we got the word that there would be no school today! We woke up to lots of ice. Here are some pictures:





So, today we...
lounged in front of the fire,



cleaned my office,


worked on the neverending pile of laundry,


and went to see Hotel for Dogs.


We've come full circle. I'm now updating my blog, watching Lost, and shuttling back and forth between the school website and the local channels to see if the forecasted temperature of 22 degrees might freeze everything up again tonight, giving us another surprise day off!
